SWISS PARLIAMENT LEGALISES CANNABIS
BERN--After the Swiss "Nationalrat" [first chamber] the second chamber of
Parliament (Staenderat) on Tuesday also voiced its support for the
legalisation of cannabis (hashish). The representatives approved two
proposals by the cantons [states] of Zurich and Basle-Country to delete
cannabis from the narcotics law. Sales are to be put under government
control. Supporters say that legalisation would separate markets for hard
and soft drugs. It would also remove the appearance of harmlessness from
alcohol and tobacco and make prevention easier. Opponents warned of
hashish-tourism.

SCHWEIZER PARLAMENT LEGALISIERT CANNABIS
BERN (dpa). Nach dem Schweizer Nationalrat hat sich auch die zweite
Parlamentskammer (Ständerat) am Dienstag für die Freigabe von Cannabis
(Haschisch) ausgesprochen. Die Abgeordneten hießen zwei Vorschläge der
Kantone Zürich und Baselland gut, die Cannabis aus dem
Betäubungsmittelgesetz streichen wollen. Der Handel soll unter staatliche
Kontrolle gestellt werden. Mit der Legalisierung würden die Märkte für harte
und weiche Drogen getrennt, meinten die Befürworter. Damit werde auch
Alkohol und Tabak der Anschein der Harmlosigkeit genommen und die Prävention
erleichtert. Die Gegner warnten vor einem Hasch-Tourismus.
