What You Can Do To Protect Yourself

Unfortunately, if you have been arrested under today's drug laws, there are only a limited number of things you can do about it. Certainly, immediately securing the services of a good attorney, familiar with the drug laws in your state, is critical.

If you have been arrested and need an attorney NORML maintains a directory of attorneys that handle drug cases. You can check the list to see if there is an attorney near you by going to:
http://www.norml.org/legal/norml_lc.shtml

The directory of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is useful to have on hand as well. You can reach them at 202-872-8600 or contact their membership services staffer Steve Frazier at steven@nacdl.org.

In the event you have been charged with a misdemeanor marijuana charge in New York State and it's your first offense check out this article.  This may be of great interest to both you and your attorney.

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."
--Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, Ch. III, "White Blackmail"
