DONATION$ Help ReconsiDer end the war on drugs and provide financial security for you and your family at the same time... RECONSIDER relies on the generosity of people like you to maintain our organization. As you may imagine, drug policy reform is not a cause supported by government funding sources and private foundations that fund drug policy reform efforts are few. While we do receive money from grants from some private foundations it is not sufficient to enable us to do all the projects we would like to do. There are many ways to donate to ReconsiDer, many of which can save you and your family money as well as helping us fight one of the most important battles America faces today. This website, The ReconsiDer Quarterly, The ReconsiDer Speakers Bureau, The ReconsiDer Events Bureau, and all the other worthy and important ReconsiDer projects, (not to mention things like office supplies, telephones, and postage) all cost money. We hope you will see fit to donate what you can to help us continue to get the message about the harms caused by our failed drug policy to as many people as we can. Keep on reading to see how a donation to ReconsiDer can benefit, not just ReconsiDer, but you and your family as well. Please give generously. Donations can be made either by check, (payable to RECONSIDER and sent to ReconsiDer, 205 Onondaga Ave. Syracuse, NY 13207 ) or, ReconsiDer will also accept property donations including cars, boats, houses, land, and office equipment. Got an old vehicle taking up space in your driveway? Donating your old car or boat can give you a sizable tax deduction as well as benefit ReconsiDer. Contact us at: info@reconsider.org and we'll tell you who to call in your area. A gift of appreciated
stock or securities will go a long way to help ReconsiDer,
as well as provide you with a significant income tax deduction for the full
market value of the stock. (Note: To receive the full tax benefit, stocks must
be transferred to ReconsiDer before they are
sold): Outright Bequest - ReconsiDer is given a specific dollar amount or a specific asset, such as securities or marketable real estate. Residuary Bequest - ReconsiDer is given all or a percentage of the remainder of the estate after payment of all expenses of the estate and any other specific amounts bequeathed to other beneficiaries of the will. Testamentary Trust - You may provide for income to be paid from the trust to a designated beneficiary, and after that individual's lifetime all or part of the principal passes to ReconsiDer. Contingent Bequest - You may have family and friends for whom you feel a responsibility and choose to provide for them first in your will. ReconsiDer is given a bequest only if the designated beneficiary (ies) predecease you.
The Charitable Remainder Trust. There are tax benefits in giving gifts of appreciated property such as marketable securities. You can eliminate the tax on the gains you would otherwise be subject to, you can reduce your income tax and, you can make a larger gift to ReconsiDer at less cost to you. A Charitable Lead Trust can be an effective
estate planning tool to transfer the assets to your heirs with significant tax
advantages while making a meaningful gift to ReconsiDer.
You can establish a lead trust that will make income payments to ReconsiDer
for a pre-determined term of years. After the trust term, the assets are
distributed to you or your heirs. There are two types of lead trusts: the
grantor lead trust and the non-grantor lead trust. Life Insurance: A charitable gift of life insurance is an innovative way to provide a highly leveraged endowment to ReconsiDer. There are several ways to gift life insurance. You may contribute a new or existing policy by transferring the policy to ReconsiDer and naming ReconsiDer as owner and beneficiary. There are substantial benefits to both you and ReconsiDer. The premium payments will provide you with an income tax deduction. The endowed gift to ReconsiDer will be substantially larger than the amount used to fund the insurance policy. The insurance policy proceeds pass directly to ReconsiDer outside your estate and are not subject to probate or estate taxation. Therefore, your estate will be undiminished by the gift. You may wish to add ReconsiDer to an existing policy as a remainder beneficiary or you can utilize the values in an existing policy to fund a more highly leveraged one. Since life insurance premiums are based or mortality rates, gifts of life insurance are extremely affordable for younger donors, affording them the opportunity to make sizable gifts. There are various creative ways that life insurance combined with charitable trusts can be utilized as asset replacement plans. A wealth replacement trust transfers property free of federal estate and state inheritance taxes and often provides an even greater inheritance for your heirs. A wealth replacement trust is a sophisticated charitable estate planning tool utilizing a charitable remainder trust coupled with life insurance. It replenishes estate values for your children or other intended beneficiaries through the purchase of life insurance. You can provide a lasting legacy to ReconsiDer and to your heirs. Retirement Plans: You may wish to
designate ReconsiDer as beneficiary of your
retirement plan. When you designate your children or other heirs as
beneficiaries, they receive only a small fraction of the plan's value since
inherited assets of retirement plans (such as IRA's, 401k's, Keogh Plans and
others) are subject to both estate and income tax. You would be making a
substantial donation to ReconsiDer at a
minimum cost to your family with plan assets that would be otherwise subject to
tax.
ReconsiDer is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization under federal and New York law. Your gifts to ReconsiDer are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Anonymous DonorsIt is the policy that the ReconsiDer will respect the wishes of any donor or donors who wish to remain anonymous. If requested, ReconsiDer’s gift records system will maintain these gifts or pledges as “Anonymous” for publication purposes and will limit the release of donors’ names to directors or staff of ReconsiDer., ReconsiDer, our official auditors, or to government agencies. Release of donor information will be done only on a “need-to-know” or official compliance requirement basis. Whenever information is released on this basis, staff of the ReconsiDer have an obligation to inform the recipient of the information that the donors have requested anonymity and that their wishes should be respected. Individuals and organizations receiving information on this basis, who have been so cautioned, are then responsible and liable for their actions, not ReconsiDer.
